Interviewer can ask this simple question which identifies the thinking of candidates related to self-confidence and over-confidence. Recruiter only wants to see whether you can differentiate it broadly or not.

What is the Difference between Confidence & Overconfidence?

It is a nice question to answer. Generally there is little bit dissimilarity between confidence and over-confidence. If anyone says “I can do it”, then it is his / her confidence. Whereas, if anyone says “I can only do this”, this we can summarize as his / her overconfidence.

Only someone’s behavior, attitude and speech can tell about his / her state, either there is confidence or overconfidence.

Confidence:
Based on fact and figure.
If person commit “I can do this work” after analyzing the work is confidence.
Confidence is a word that is used to describe how definite a person is in judgments, actions and aptitudes.
It defines the faith of person has on himself.
Self-confidence reveals how a person observes himself.
Confidence level of an individual enough to give his presence.
An individual voice tone, body language and gestures show the confidence.
Where confidence exists, there is no pride and egotism.
It represents the experience and knowledge.
Confident person is realistic in his expressions.
Overconfidence:
Based on rumor.
Without analyze of work, person thinks “I only can do this work” shows overconfidence.
It can be probable as an inflated ego.
An individual may actproudly, superior and somewhat of a showoff in overconfidence.
Overconfidence may also exist where lack of confidence.
Overconfident person speak loudly to get attention and tryto prove their point forcefully.
Overconfident person like to make fun of others.
Confidence is an important element in reaching our goals but over-confidence can take in negative ways. Simply saying, overconfidence is confidence that is unjustified.
